Engineers Without Borders

Engineers Without Borders (EWB) is dedicated to a world free from extreme poverty. Our work strives to create opportunities for people living in impoverished countries to improve their lives and work their ways out of poverty.

Overseas, EWB volunteers work with some of the world’s most impoverished communities. We believe that technology has an important role to play in development.  Adapting technologies such as small-scale irrigation systems, water and sanitation facilities, and mechanized food processing equipment to meet a community’s needs, can provide useful tools in the struggle out of poverty. Technologies, when appropriately incorporated into each community’s social, cultural, economic and political context, can drive extraordinary change.

However, we know that sending volunteers to work overseas is not enough if we want to see an end to extreme poverty. Canada and Canadians have a critical role to play.  We believe that 32 million Canadians can choose to make a difference in the lives of one billion people living in extreme poverty. EWB’s 33 chapters across Canada are committed to engaging Canadians to play their part to contribute to human development.
